Conditions therapeutic massage addresses

A clinical approach to massage therapy.

Unlike relaxation massage, therapeutic massage is a clinical technique that targets specific health conditions. Our therapists work in coordination with Dr. Mayfield to design treatment that addresses the muscular component of your pain — while chiropractic care handles the structural side.

How therapeutic massage heals

Treating the whole picture.

At Mayfield Chiropractic, therapeutic massage is integrated into your overall care plan — not offered as a standalone amenity. This coordinated approach produces results that last.

Reduces pain at the source

By targeting tight muscles, trigger points, and restricted fascia, therapeutic massage addresses the muscular component of chronic pain rather than masking it.

Supports natural healing

Increased circulation, reduced inflammation, and improved tissue mobility help your body heal faster — particularly during recovery from injury or surgery.

Complements chiropractic care

Relaxed muscles hold spinal adjustments longer. Patients who combine massage with chiropractic care typically see faster improvement and longer-lasting results.

Common questions

Therapeutic massage — what to know

What is therapeutic massage?

Therapeutic massage is a clinical approach to massage that targets specific health conditions rather than general relaxation. Our licensed therapists use evidence-based techniques to reduce pain, improve function, and support your body's natural healing processes — often as part of a coordinated care plan with chiropractic adjustments.

What conditions can therapeutic massage help?

Therapeutic massage is effective for chronic pain, stress and anxiety, tension headaches and migraines, injury recovery, arthritis, fibromyalgia, post-surgical rehabilitation, and sleep problems. When combined with chiropractic care, it addresses both muscular and skeletal components of most conditions.

How often do I need therapeutic massage?

Frequency depends on your condition and goals. For acute pain or injury recovery, more frequent sessions initially (weekly) are often recommended. As you improve, sessions can be spaced to bi-weekly or monthly for maintenance. Your provider will recommend a schedule based on your specific situation.

Is therapeutic massage covered by insurance?

Many insurance plans cover therapeutic massage when prescribed as part of a treatment plan. We work with most major insurance providers and Medicare. Contact our office and we will verify your coverage before your first appointment.

Can I combine therapeutic massage with chiropractic care?

Yes — and we strongly encourage it. Massage relaxes the muscles around your spine, making chiropractic adjustments more effective and longer-lasting. Many of our patients receive massage before or after their adjustment for the best results.
