It is official: dry needling is now available by appointment at Mayfield Chiropractic in Monroe, performed by Dr. Fournier. The launch we announced earlier this month is live, and the schedule is open — you can book a session starting today.
If you pre-booked during launch week, your spot is confirmed and there is nothing else you need to do. If you have been waiting to see it go live before committing, this post covers what actually happens at a dry needling appointment, who tends to benefit most, and how to get on the schedule.
What Happens at Your First Appointment
A first dry needling visit is shorter than most people expect. Your provider starts by finding the trigger points that are actually driving your symptoms — which is not always where the pain is. A tight muscle in the hip can refer pain down the leg; an overworked band at the base of the skull can produce what feels like a headache behind the eyes.
Once the trigger point is identified, a thin sterile needle goes directly into it. You may feel a quick deep twitch — that is the muscle releasing, and it is the response we are looking for. The needle stays in briefly, then comes out. Nothing is injected: no medication, no cortisone. Most sessions take only a few minutes of actual needling.
Because dry needling addresses the muscular side of a problem and adjustments address the joint side, the two work well in the same visit. If you are already a chiropractic patient here, we can usually add needling to an existing appointment rather than making you come back separately.
Who It Tends to Help Most
Dry needling is not a fit for everything, and we will tell you if it is not right for you. The patients who see the clearest benefit usually fall into one of these groups:
- Pain that keeps returning to the same spot. You stretch, it loosens for a day, and it comes right back. That pattern often points to a trigger point that stretching cannot reach.
- Desk and driving posture in the neck and shoulders. Common across Monroe's office, healthcare and plant-shift workers alike.
- Deep hip and glute pain that mimics sciatica. Muscles like the piriformis can produce leg symptoms without any disc involvement at all.
- Recurring sports strains. Hamstrings, calves and forearms that keep re-tightening through a season.
- Muscular headaches. Particularly the kind that start at the base of the skull and wrap forward.
What to Expect Afterward
Mild soreness in the treated area for a day or so is normal and is the most common after-effect — it feels like the muscle worked hard, because it did. Drinking water, moving normally and applying heat generally settles it. Strenuous training on the same muscle group is worth postponing until the next day.
Some patients notice a change in the first session. More often it takes a few visits for a long-standing trigger point to stop reforming, especially if the underlying posture or training load has not changed yet. That is something we will talk through honestly at your appointment rather than selling you a package up front.
